Does Montour Youth Baseball conduct open meetings so I can learn what is going on?
Yes. Our Board is committed to communication and the sharing of information and the gathering of ideas. Our Board meets twice a month and one is open to league participants. The open meeting is held the first Wednesday of each month from September through June. Please refer to the calendar at montouryouthbaseball.com for time and location.
When is registration each year?
Generally speaking, Montour Youth Baseball holds online registration beginning of January with uniform sizing to be done beginning at the end of January. All dates are posted at montouryouthbaseball.com
I missed the posted registration days. Can I still register my child to play this season?
Yes and no. Since our Minors and Majors divisions conduct a draft to select players, we generally do not allow players to register after the draft is conducted. The draft is usually held the third week of February. For the Instructional and T-ball divisions, we can often get kids in but a $25 late fee may apply. Registration is hard closed on March 1 with no exceptions as uniforms must be ordered. Please contact the MYBL Board with further questions.
When does the season start?
Typically, we try to get our Minors and Majors divisions started by the third week of April. The younger divisions start on May 1 to allow for them to get in a little more practice time.
When does the season end?
Everything is usually wrapped up by the third week of June.
How many games/practices are played each week?
Generally, teams play 2 games a week and can be played any day during the week. Minors and below start at 6:00pm and Majors games start at 7:45 pm. Saturdays are reserved for make up games and additional practice time. We don't normally schedule games on Sunday unless it is absolutely necessary to get games in. We also try to schedule around Montour School District events that will impact a large number of players although it is not always possible to accommodate everyone in every situation. During the season, we have committed to having open practices every weekend that we can to improve skills at all levels.
I have two children in the same league. Will they be on the same team?
Yes, our policy is to place siblings on the same team if they are in the same age group. However, if a parent requests, the siblings may play on different teams.
My child wants to play on a team with his friend. Is that permitted?
Yes and no. Yes, for T-Ball and to some extent, Instructional. No, for the older age groups. Simply, write the request on the registration form when you sign up your child. We will make every effort to honor that type of request but it is not guaranteed that every request will be honored. Since we have player drafts in the older age groups, we cannot honor this type of request.
May I request that my child play for a particular coach?
Yes, for T-Ball and to some extent, Instructional. No, for the older age groups. Simply, write the request on the registration form when you sign up your child. We will make every effort to honor that type of request but it is not guaranteed that every request will be honored. Since we have player drafts in the older age groups, we cannot honor this type of request.
Why do we have to work in the concession stand?
The concession stand is our largest fundraiser and it helps pay for expenses. Since our league is a volunteer effort, we require all parents to staff the concession stand two times. It's a good way to meet other people involved in our group. Plus, you work your two times and you get your concession deposit back at the end of the season.
Can I have my child work the concession stand for me?
Yes, if they are on the Board approved substiute list and 16 years and older. No kids are allowed in the concession stand at any time even if a parent is working. No exceptions.
My child is a great player. Can he "Play up" with the older kids?
Montour Youth BAseball for the most part, abides by the age limits set forth by our league. For more information on the age groupings for this year, see the posting on our web site. The Board has final say on exceptions to the age limits. If your child is interested in playing more "competitive" baseball, we offer numerous tournament teams that play in tournaments during July. Tournament teams are All-star teams that are selected from among the best players of a particular age.
How much will my child play during a game?
The requirements vary from league to league but, generally, your child should play in the field in at least half of the available innings. Age groups 5-12 employ roster batting so your child will always get their turn at bat. In T-Ball all players play in the field every inning.
